We will not do anything to violate your trust. We treat customer information as strictly confidential.
Why we keep your details confidential
Privacy is an important personal consideration in today's computerised database world. It sometimes seems that nothing can be kept confidential. There is a growing trend to exchange these private databases for a variety of uses, including bombarding all of us with mail-order catalogues and junk mail. Once your name finds its way onto a mailing list database, it is often duplicated and the avalanche begins.
At issue is not only the capacity of our mailboxes, but the idea that — without our permission — our names can be exchanged for the purpose of someone else's commercial interest. There are also serious environmental questions raised with the proliferation of mail that's neither requested nor wanted.
We take a different approach at Deep Blue Imports. When you register for a wholesale account, shop with us, or request to receive information, we undertake to keep your name and information completely confidential. We do not sell it, trade it, or give it to anyone, without your express permission.
We believe you want to have a relationship with Deep Blue Imports because of the integrity we show with all of our clients, plus our practical approach to supporting your scuba diving endeavours.
We process all of your information in-house. Our database is never combined with any other mailing list. The only way we use you contact information is to help us deliver services to you, or to inform you about our services, as requested by you.
We are not in the business of collecting names and selling mailing lists. We hope that our respectful Privacy Policy is just one more reason why Deep Blue Imports will become one of your favourite scuba diving providers.
What Personal Information About Customers Does Deep Blue Imports Gather?
The information we learn from customers helps us personalize and continually improve your shopping experience at www.deepblueimports.com.au. Here are the types of information we gather.
Information You Give Us
We receive and store any information you enter on our website or give us in any other way. You can choose not to provide certain information, but then you might not be able to take advantage of many of our features. We use the information that you provide for such purposes as responding to your requests, customising future shopping for you, improving our store, and communicating with you.
Automatic Information
We receive and store certain types of information whenever you interact with us. For example, like many websites, we use "cookies," and we obtain certain types of information when your web browser accesses our web site. A number of companies offer utilities designed to help you visit websites anonymously. Although we will not be able to provide you with a personalised experience if we cannot recognise you, we want you to be aware that these tools exist.
Email Communications
To help us make emails more useful and interesting, we often receive a confirmation when you open email from us if your computer supports such capabilities. We also compare our customer list to lists received from other companies, in an effort to avoid sending unnecessary messages to our customers.
Out of respect for your privacy, if you no longer wish to receive email communications, you can easily opt-out using the Unsubscribe link included in each communication. Unsubscribe links are specific to the email communication types you are currently subscribed to and are indicated in the footer copy of the email communication. You can globally unsubscribe from all email communications by clicking Unsubscribe.
Information From Other Sources
We might receive information about you from other sources and add it to our account information.
What About Cookies?
Cookies are alphanumeric identifiers that we transfer to your computer's hard drive through your web browser to enable our systems to recognize your browser and to provide features such as storage of items in your Shopping Cart between visits.
The Help portion of the toolbar on most browsers will tell you how to prevent your browser from accepting new cookies, how to have the browser notify you when you receive a new cookie, or how to disable cookies altogether. However, cookies allow you to take full advantage of some of our website's coolest features, and we recommend that you leave them turned on.
Remarketing Advertisements
Third party vendors, including Google, show our ads on sites on the internet and use cookies to serve our ads based on a user's prior visits to our web site. Users may opt out of Google's use of cookies by visiting the Google advertising opt-out page. Additionally, users can opt out of a third party vendor's use of cookies by visiting the Network Advertising Initiative opt out page.
Does Deep Blue Imports Share the Information It Receives?
Information about our customers is an important part of our business, and we are not in the business of selling it to others. We share customer information only as described below and with subsidiaries we control that either are subject to this Privacy Policy or follow practices at least as protective as those described in this Privacy Policy.
Agents
We employ other companies and individuals to perform functions on our behalf. Examples include fulfilling orders, delivering packages, sending postal mail and email, removing repetitive information from customer lists, analysing data, providing marketing assistance, providing search results and links (including paid listings and links), processing credit card payments, and providing customer service. They have access to personal information needed to perform their functions but may not use it for other purposes.
Promotional Offers
Sometimes we may send offers to selected groups of our customers on behalf of other businesses. When we do this, we do not give those businesses your name and address.
Business Transfers
As we continue to develop our business, we might sell or buy stores, subsidiaries, or business units. In such transactions, customer information generally is one of the transferred business assets but remains subject to the promises made in any pre-existing Privacy Policy (unless, of course, the customer consents otherwise). Also, in the unlikely event that Deep Blue Imports, or substantially all of its assets are acquired, customer information will of course be one of the transferred assets.
Protection of Deep Blue Imports and Others
We release account and other personal information when we believe release is appropriate to comply with the law; enforce or apply our Terms of Use and other agreements; or protect the rights, property, or safety of our company, our users, or others. This includes exchanging information with other companies and organisations for fraud protection and credit risk reduction. Obviously, however, this does not include selling, renting, sharing, or otherwise disclosing personally identifiable information from customers for commercial purposes in violation of the commitments set forth in this Privacy Policy.
With Your Consent
Other than as set out above, you will receive notice when information about you might go to third parties, and you will have an opportunity to choose not to share the information.
How Secure Is Information About Me?
We work to protect the security of your information during transmission by using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) software, which encrypts information you input. In payment transactions made online we don't get to see or store your credit card number. Of course, with orders paid by credit card over the phone we record and use the entire credit card number during order processing. It is important for you to protect against unauthorised access to your account and to your computer. Be sure to sign off when finished using a shared computer.
What Choices Do I Have?
As discussed above, you can always choose not to provide information, even though it might be needed to make a purchase or to take advantage of our web site features. The Help portion of the toolbar on most browsers will tell you how to prevent your browser from accepting new cookies, how to have the browser notify you when you receive a new cookie, or how to disable cookies altogether. However, you will not be able to use important features if you do not use cookies. In addition, the USA Federal Trade Commission provides useful information about online privacy on its own website, Site Seeing on the Internet: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/online/sitesee.htm
Children
Deep Blue Imports does not sell products for purchase by children. We sell children's products for purchase by adults. If you are under 16, you may use our web site only with the involvement of a parent or guardian.
Conditions of Use, Notices, and Revisions
If you choose to visit our web site, your visit and any dispute over privacy is subject to this Policy Notice, our Privacy Policy, and our Terms of Use, including limitations on damages, arbitration of disputes, and application of the law of the state of Victoria, Australia. If you have any concern about privacy at Deep Blue Imports, please send us a thorough description to sales@deepblueimports.com.au, and we will try to resolve it.
Our business changes constantly, and our Privacy Policy and the Conditions of Use will change also. We may email periodic reminders of our notices and conditions, unless you have instructed us not to, but you should check our web site frequently to see recent changes. Unless stated otherwise, our current Privacy Policy applies to all information that we have about you and your account. We stand behind the promises we make, however, and will never materially change our policies and practices to make them less protective of customer information collected in the past without the consent of affected customers.
